Elite road race at Blenheim Palace

Category 1, 2 and 3 riders needed

BlenheimPalace opens its WorldHeritageSitePark to cyclists for the first time on Sunday September 28th. Celebrating cycling in all its forms, BikeBlenheimPalace will include an Elite Road Race, 20km Time Trial, leisure rides and provide the unique staging for the 2008 Brompton World Championships.

The Elite Road Race, organised by British Cycling, is a one hour plus one lap affair that takes place on a completely closed 6.5km road circuit. Open to male Elite first, second and third category riders, it should provide good training for anybody who wants to maintain sharpness for the Hill Climbing season starting in October.

First prize for the Elite Race is a superb Brompton S2L-X bike, which retails at £1,284, with 2nd and 3rd place prizes to be confirmed soon. BikeBlenheimPalace organisers expect to attract around 3,000 people to the event and are aiming for the Elite race to join the Premier Calendar in 2009.

Following the races, cycling routes of varying lengths will be opened to the general public. An event village that includes retailers, a mountain bike display team, bike polo, vintage bikes and ‘Go Ride’ skills courses for children will also be on the grounds.
