Has Wade ended his year before it's begun?Australian Downhill and 4X rider Wade Bootes is today recovering from a broken collarbone.
Bootes, who rides for Trek, was circuit racing in the qualifying heat of the Keirin at the Australian Track Cycling Championships in Sydney on Sunday, May 4 when he did the damage.
Better known for his domination of the 4X and Duel races at World Cup level, Bootes had started track racing after testing showed he had great potential.
He was racing a qualifying lap against Ryan Bayley, when the final lap bell rang and Bayley swung out and hit Bootes wheel, bringing both Wade and Sean Dwight crashing to the floor.
"It will be six weeks until I can hang on to the bike properly. This has basically blown my MTB season. I can look to the MTB Worlds, but right now it's not looking too good" he told cyclingnews.com.
He was taken from the track clutching his left arm, to be treated by the St John's ambulance crew.
"It's a little different crashing on the track. In MTB you tend to tumble and roll. Here, it's one big slide" he said.
Everyone at MBUK (even Will) wishes Wade a swift recovery/Jamie Carter
