The third stage of the Tour of Catalonia was won by Rabobank's Pedro Horrillo, who jumped away from the bunch with just over a kilometre remaining. The strong-riding Spaniard who is blessed with a more than decent finishing kick attacked on a rise up to the finish in La Granada to claim a timely win given that he is hoping to make the Dutch team's selection for the Tour de France.

Horrillo's attack came just a few hundred metres after a lone effort from Juan Antonio Flecha had been foiled. The Argentina-born but Catalonia-based rider had been hoping to make an impact in this race and knew with three stages ahead in the Pyrenees that today's stage was probably his best chance. But, no doubt he'll make another attempt in Sunday's closing stage.

Tomorrow the riders face the first of those Pyrenean stages, running a huge 237km to the Andorran ski station at Pal. Phonak's Miguel Angel Martin Perdiguero still holds the overall lead going into that stage, but there is no doubt the overall standings will be given a thorough shake-up.
