PIC BY TDWSPORT.COM Robert Hunter won the fourth stage of Semana Catalana this afternoon, beating stage two winner Claudio Corioni into second place in Palau Solita i Plegamans. There was no change in the overall standings as Liberty Seguros controlled the race and protected Alberto Contador's seven-second lead going into tomorrow's final time trial stage. Three riders went clear early in the stage - Spiuk's Fernando Torres initially, and he was then joined by Barloworld's Giampaolo Cheula and Relax's Oscar Laguna - but Liberty gradually eased back the advantage the trio had gained. Although Phonak's Victor Hugo Pe¤a and Comunitat Valenciana's Antonio Olmo joined the three at the front with 40km remaining, the peloton was already within a minute of them. The junction was made with 15km left, and after a flurry of late attacks were neutralised, it was Hunter who came out of the pack for the win. Tomorrow's time trial starts and finishes at the Wurth factory in Palau, and as the main sub-sponsor of the Liberty team the stage is a particular target for Manolo Saiz's men. Contador is not only aiming to clinch the overall prize but also take the stage and Liberty DS Herminio Diaz Zaballa believes the 16km course should suit him. "There are lots of bends and a bit of a hill, and although that will mean frequent changes of rhythm on paper the course should be favourable to Contador's characteristics," said Diaz Zabala.
