New UK grassroots mountain bike race

“Early Dawes” at Catton Park

A brand new grassroots cross country race, Early Dawes, will be held on April 6 at Walton Woods, Walton-on-Trent. Organised by Dawes and Pro-Velo Support, the people who run Mountain Mayhem and Sleepless in the Saddle, the event aims to be fast, fun and exciting – just like the course.

The event will take advantage of a number of new tracks in the Walton Woods area and promises to be varied enough to cater for first timers and experienced racers alike, with relatively short laps.

Races will be contested over a set number of laps determined by age and ability, with British Cycling National Ranking Points available.

Dawes will be on site displaying their new range of bikes as well as stalls from Crank Brothers, Clif Bar, Singletrack and Swinnerton Cycles.

Pat Adams the man behind Pro-Velo Support told us: “Although this will be a low profile event compared to other events we are involved with, we hope that this humble idea will blossom and attract newbies to have a go, as well as the more experienced riders, who could ride this race as an early season opener.

This is grass roots racing at its best, short, fast exciting and affordable but with all the quality touches you’d expect from any Pro-Velo Support event.”
