A Queensland police officer has shattered the world record for time taken to pedal around Australia.
Dave Alley, a 35-year-old father-of-three, took just 37 days, 20hrs and 45mins to complete the 14,251km trek, eclipsing the previous record held by Canadian Perry Stone by nearly four days. Starting and finishing in Brisbane, he pedalled at an average of 377km a day, including 506km non-stop during one 24-hour stretch.
While it took a little over a month to complete, the epic challenge was two years in the making and included up to 40 hours per week of training. He spent a minimum of 15 hours a day on the bike, with just 4-6 hours of sleep per day and was fully supported by a seven man crew.
