The Swede will be showcasing his skills on the flat boards of Manchester's velodrome - quite different terrain to the cobbles of northern France on which he won Paris-Roubaix in 2004. Backstedt, who at the end of this month will tackle the derny world hour record at the Newport velodrome in Wales, joins Victoria Pendleton, Chris Hoy, Jason Queally and Rob Hayles in the line-up. The packed programme features a GB-Holland team sprint clash, with Hoy, Queally and Craig MacLean going up against Theo Bos, Tuen Mulder and Tim Veldt, and sprint world champion Pendleton joining forces with up-and-coming GB rider Anna Blyth against the Dutch pairing of Yvonne Hijgennar and Willy Kanis in the women's events.
