PIC BY TDWSPORT.COM Davitamon-Lotto's Serge Baguet won the second stage of the Ruta del Sol on Monday afternoon, beating Saunier Duval's Leonardo Piepoli in a sprint at the Cumbres Verdes summit. Stage one winner Carlos Garcia Quesada kept the overall lead by finishing fourth at seven seconds. Riding through what is very much their home patch, the Garcia Quesada brothers had mixed fortunes. Younger brother Adolfo was forced out of the race with knee trouble after 50km, while Carlos was among a group of riders that overhauled a breakaway on the early slopes of the final climb and went on to dispute the stage victory. Although admitting his own form is not yet as good as it will be, the elder Garcia Quesada stuck with Baguet, Piepoli and Davitamon's Johan Vansummeren until the last few hundred metres, when the Belgian team's superior numbers proved enough to check Piepoli's final assault. Vansummeren clawed a few seconds back on Garcia Quesada, whose overall lead is now 36 seconds going into another hilly stage to Jaen on Tuesday.
