Following 2004's departure of the Brioches La Boulangre company from team sponsorship, the French bakery industry has this year returned to the sport thanks to the National Confederation of French Bakeries backing the Ag2r team. The organisation had been looking for a way of promoting the interests of its 34,000 members, and has opted to place its logo on the French team's jersey this season.

- The news has all been good for women's cycling in recent months with an increasing number of sponsors coming into that side of the sport, but a significant setback has now been suffered with the announcement by the International Cycling Union that March's Primavera Rosa World Cup race has been cancelled. Run by Giro d'Italia organisers RCS, the race was due to take place on March 18, finishing in San Remo just before the first men's Classic of the season, Milan-San Remo. The World Cup, which starts in Geelong, Australia on February 26, will now comprise 12 events. The UCI also announced that the Naturino team have been approved for continental status for the coming season.

- The organisers of the Bicicleta Vasca race have decided against changing the dates of the event and are sticking with the original schedule between May 31 and June 4. Talks were held with leading teams to assess whether they would prefer the race to take place in a less congested part of the calendar, but the race organisers have received a commitment from a number of leading teams that they will be taking part.

Parts of the route details have also been announced. The stages are:

Stage 2, June 1: Astigarraga-Ispaster
Stage 3, June 2: ??????-Leintz Gatzaga
Stage 4, June 3: ??????-Agurain
