Charly Wegelius is confirmed with a Pro Tour team for next season, while Alejandro Valverde seems evPICTURE BY TIM DE WAELE It has been confirmed that British Olympian Charly Wegelius has signed with the Italian Liquigas team, where he will join up with the likes of Stefano Garzelli, Magnus Backstedt and Danilo Di Luca. This ensures that Wegelius, who has been with De Nardi for the past two seasons will line up in Pro Tour events, assuming that the Pro Tour does get the go-ahead in the coming days. More details are emerging on the parties behind the heavily rumoured move by Saunier Duval for Alejandro Valverde. According to AS, the much in demand Murcian rider's potential move is being backed by Polaris World, a company that builds luxury resort facilities including golf courses and accommodation, and Murcia Turistica, the body that promotes tourism in the Murcia region. The deal for Valverde is also believed to include the signings of Vuelta stage winner Jos Cayetano Julia and Jos Luis Martinez, both team-mates of Valverde at CV-Kelme. AS also reports that Valverde's personal manager has managed to have the opt-out payment in the rider's contract with CV-Kelme reduced by half, from two to one million euros. Although Liberty Seguros are reported to be less interested in signing Valverde, Illes Balears could still offer some competition for the 24 year old's signature.
