Building on their experiences in the Tour de Bretagne and other International races, five riders from Team Luciano are heading to China at the end of April to compete in the International Cyclist Union (UCI) Chong Ming Island time trial and four day stage race, near Shanghai.
They will race as Team Max/Luciano. The invitation has come through Wayne Greenhalgh of MAX cycling. Hannah Bussey was due to race but unfortunately she broke her collar bone recently.
“Eighteen months ago the MAX cycling brand was born and with it Team MAXgear," said Greenhalgh, team manager. "Our vision for the team was to ride at the highest level in Britain and one day internationally, this vision will be realized in a few days time and at the high UCI level.
"MAXgear has tried to help as many grass roots projects as possible and recently sponsored the Sportcity youth team based at the velodrome," he added. "This time we wanted to give the best UK women’s riders a chance to compete against some of the world’s best. We asked Team Luciano as they are the best UK women’s team and were very happy when they agreed to take part."
Team leader Jeanette Caldicott said: “This will be a fantastic experience for us. We all learnt so much last year riding the Tour de Bretagne so we are really looking forward to this race. Wayne only received the invitation whilst at the Taipei Cycle Show in the middle of March, so we’ve had lots to organize in a short space of time, but we’re all ready to go now.”
The team will be racing at the Nottingham Team series race on Sunday 20th April before heading off to China on the 22nd.
The team for China includes Jeanette Caldicott, Diane Moss, Melissa Mather, Helen Gutteridge, and Elaine Serjeant.
