The 2007 USA Cycling Mountain Bike National Championships by X-Fusion is under way at Mount Snow Resort in West Dover, Vermont, though the major disciplines in the July 17-22 event happen over the weekend. Pro men and women will duke it out for US$20,000 in prize money; payouts will be US$5,000 per discipline, with US$2,500 to the men and $2,500US to the women. All prize payouts will go five deep to the podium finishers in the cross country, downhill, short track cross country and dual slalom competitions.
"In the cross country, it will be the usual suspects," USA Cycling's Andy Lee said. "Adam Craig just won Pan Am Games; Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski, Todd Wells, Jeremiah Bishop, Barry Wicks and Ryan Trebon are all strong for the men. Georgia Gould, Mary McConneloug and Willow Koerber are all going really well for the women, and then you have Heather Irminger and Shonny Vanlandingham..."
With over 2,000 competitors expected to compete across beginner, sport, expert, semi-pro and professional categories, the 2007 race will feature several disciplines of mountain bike competition including Olympic-style Cross Country, Short Track Cross Country, Downhill, Dual Slalom, Super D, Observed Trials and Singlespeed Cross Country.
With a 19-year history in hosting world-class mountain bike competitions, including UCI World Cups and National Mountain Bike Series events, the 2007 USA Cycling National Championships by X-Fusion marks the first time Mount Snow will have hosted a stand-alone national championship event since USA Cycling reintroduced the format in 2004.
