Trek's four year sponsorship of the British Cycling's National Points Series XC events has come to an end. The company believes that the vast growth in rider numbers in all categories is evidence of the desire for a National series and says it will be supporting a number of XC focused projects including the SiS/Trek mountain bike team and the Trek Masters team.
"After supporting the series for so long, it was time to pass the baton to another sponsor who could bring new focus and energy to the events. It is gratifying to see the XC scene brought to such rude health in so short a time, and whoever should take up the challenge will find a packed start line eager to race." Andrew Griffin.
This change will also mean the end of Trek's participation in the British Marathon Series, which after only two years, has grown enormously and, together with the XC event, has made for an exciting weekend of racing.
"Cross country is still a large part of Trek's heritage and it is likely that we'll have a presence at the races through a committed athlete sponsorship program."
Trek will be concentrating on other projects for 2008 but will continue its partnership with British Cycling in a number of key areas including Go Ride and the support of the BC road squad.
