Team MBUK/Santa Cruz headed out to Snowdonia in North Wales at the weekend for round one of the UK National Series. We were greeted for the most part with rain, snow and high winds, which turned an open moorland mountain into a mud bath. The weather didn't manage to dampen team spirits though as we were all keen to get the season underway. So it was waterproofs out and jet wash at the ready! Come race day the track had taken quite a beating and was a mix of boggy whooped out straights and deep rutted corners, it was really good fun to ride and a tough challenge for the opener of the five round series.
Right on queue, though, the sun came out for racing on Sunday afternoon. Not many riders made the finish line without a spill and unfortunately Marc had a tumble midway down. Despite this he still managed to grab the last step on the podium just ahead of Donny in 4th and me in 7th after some trouble in the whoops. Eventual winner was Gee Atherton, followed by rookie pro rider Matt Simmons whose clean run gave him his first pro National podium.
So lessons learned in Snowdonia. I guess the clue to the weather was in the title!
I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all team sponsors for your fantastic support for 2006 and hopefully beyond. I look forward to reporting back the team's success as the year progresses...
