In other Astana news, the team will wear Giro helmets in 2008, Giro announced yesterday. Astana will use the Ionos and Advantage 2 models from January 1 2008.
This continues team manager Johan Bruyneel’s long-standing relationship with the American helmet maker. “I have a long history with Giro, both as a rider and team director,” Bruyneel said in a statement. “Year after year, Giro has impressed me with the performance of their products, which deliver a proven advantage to the riders.”
Some Astana riders will also use the company’s eyewear. Tour de France winner Alberto Contador used Giro Havik sunglasses on the way to his victory this year and will continue to ride and develop eyewear for Giro. Jani Brajkovic, Sergio Paulinho, and Benjamin Noval are the newest members of the Giro eyewear squad.
Team Astana will put their new Giro products to use at training camp next month in New Mexico and will make their racing debut a couple weeks later at the Tour Down Under in Australia.
