Lampre-Caffita’s Daniele Bennati takes his second stage win at the Deutschland Tour, taking the bunc

Stage three victor Daniele Bennati was the winner again as the fifth stage of the Deutschland Tour finished with a bunch sprint in Friedrichshafen. The Lampre-Caffita rider came home just ahead of Britain’s Roger Hammond, with Australian Baden Cooke in third place.

There was no change in the overall standings, in which stage four winner Levi Leipheimer maintained his 18-second advantage over his Gerolsteiner team-mate Georg Totschnig, with race favourite Jan Ullrich 56 seconds back in third place.

The bunch timed their run to the line with absolute precision, overhauling a break comprising Dario Cioni (Liquigas), Johann Tschopp (Phonak), Jens Voigt (CSC), Cristian Moreni (Quick Step), Carlos Barredo (Liberty Seguros) and Alessandro Bertolini (Domina Vacanze) in the last 500 metres. The six riders had been away since the first hour of racing.
