Bernhard Kohl retires

Austrian admitted to doping after 2008 Tour podium finish

Former Gerolsteiner road cyclist Bernhard Kohl announced his retirement from the sport after admitting his doping use in 2008.

Disgraced Austrian cyclist Bernhard Kohl on Monday announced his retirement from competition at the age of 27 following a two-year suspension for doping.

“I am announcing my retirement from professional sport,” Kohl told a press conference in Vienna, Austria.

The Austrian last October admitted to using drugs to finish third in the 2008 Tour de France as top climber after which he was banned from cycling for two years.
