Ivan Basso to make Tour of Britain debut
Both Ivan Basso and his Liquigas – Cannondale team will make their first appearances at the Tour of Britain this year. The two-time Giro d’italia winner is currently at the Tour de France and will likely use the eight-stage race as preparation for the world championships in Limburg, The Netherlands, the following week. The Tour of Britain begins in Ipswich on Sunday 9 September.
Chicken Cycles new UK distributor for bike-specific WD-40 range

The new bike-specific WD-40 range is now being distributed in the UK by Chicken Cycles. The range includes a 500ml Penetrant, 500ml White Lithium grease spray, 500ml Dry Lubricant and a 750ml Fast Acting Degreaser, all for £8.99.
NZ pro cycling team PureBlack Racing secure major sponsorship deal
New Zealand US Continental pro cycling team PureBlack Racing has signed a five-year deal with Perry Group to develop bike racing in the country and promote it globally. The deal with the investment firm will allow the team to move their HQ to the Avantidrome, the centre of excellence in Hamilton which will be the home of New Zealand cycling from late 2013.

The team was launched in 2010 with the aim of becoming the country’s first UCI ProTour squad. Ultimately, they wanted a team in the Tour de France by 2015, plans which were in jeopardy late last year because of lack of funding.

More challenging alternative to Sky Ride launched
Ride strong plus: Sky Ride
Sky Ride have launched a new series of challenging bike rides for adults called Ride Strong Plus. The adult-only rides cover 20 to 50 mile routes on hillier, more challenging courses than their more inclusive counterpart, and designed for those wanting to up the ante in their training. The rides are taking place nationwide from Sunday 15 July and you can find them here.
Chris Boardman to be auctioned off
A private bike ride with Chris Boardman is the prize lot at a charity auction raising money for the Nottingham-based Karen Green Foundation. The charity, which raises funds to support organisations and individuals researching, treating and fighting leukaemia, has already raised over £18,000 through events such as the Outlaw triathlon earlier this month. It was launched by bike shop owner and triathlete Mick Green, 46, in memory of his wife Karen who lost her battle with Leukaemia in July 2011.
The auction, along with a party, will take place on Saturday 14 July at Anderson’s Farm in Eakring, Nottinghamshire. The evening features a pink champagne reception, hog roast, live entertainment and the announcement of the charities next big project, with other auction lots including the Brownlee’s Olympic shirts and signed prints of Sir Chris Hoy. Tickets cost £20 for adults and £10 for under-18’s.and can be bought here.
