BikeRadar Live: An amazing weekend for kids

Children and beginners will be spoilt for choice

BikeRadar Live is going to be an amazing weekend to introduce children to the joys of cycling, whether on or off road. It takes place at Donington Park this weekend, 30-31 May.

Under-12s get into the show for free, plus there’s an allocated quiet/family camping area – it’s going to be great fun.

Our world-class facilities also include showers, a bike wash and a 24-hour bike lock-up

The Islabikes Children’s Skills Schools, which are being held all day Saturday and Sunday from 10am, are the ideal opportunity for your little ones to ride one of the extensive range of kids’ bikes from the specialist firm.

Under the watchful eye of the CycleActive Skills Team, it’ll be the perfect place for youngsters to gain confidence and learn new skills on two wheels.

The excellent Sustrans Ranger Rides are taking place on Saturday at 2pm and Sunday at 9am and 12pm.

They’ll give novice cyclists and those wishing to travel at a more leisurely pace the chance to ride around 30 miles on mainly flat, traffic-free cycle paths, led by 12 Sustrans Rangers.

Shorter routes are also available, starting at 11am, 3pm and 4.30pm on Saturday and 10am, 12pm and 2pm on Sunday.

You can also test-ride the best new road and mountain bikes for free from some of the best companies including Raleigh, Ibis, Norco, Corratec, Marin, Scott, Whyte, Brompton, Cannondale, Lapierre and more.

Under-16s will need a parent or guardian to sign for them, then you’ll be free to ride the mountain bike demo track (accompanied by a parent/guardian for under-16s) and the Donington race track (accompanied by a parent/guardian for under-16s).

Watch the stars of the sport!

The skills on show from some of the best riders in the world are guaranteed to impress young and old riders alike.

Mountain bike legends including Steve Peat, Brian Lopes, Greg Minnaar and Gee Atherton are going to rip up the dual slalom track, while the hottest dirt jump stars in the world are going to show off some crazy skills on the massive jumps at the MBUK Dirt Jump Invitational.

Gee mask: gee mask

Why not head to the MBUK blog to print off masks of some of the riders who’ll be there and cheer them on as they blast down the dual slalom track.

Meanwhile, at the Animal Relentless Bike Tour you’ll get the chance to watch a stunt show featuring some of the best trials riders, dirt jumpers and freeriders in the UK.

Riders already confirmed include trials legend Martyn Ashton and dirt jump sensation Sam Pilgrim, along with a special guest rider, The Clan ‘s Danny MacAskill, the street rider behind a YouTube vid that has taken the world by storm.

Join us for the UK’s biggest bike festival this weekend (30-31 May).
