Bikes Belong names three new directors

Industry leaders convene in Boulder, Colorado

The Bikes Belong board of directors.

Bikes Belong, an American national industry advocacy group whose funding comes primarily from bicycle suppliers and retailers, has elected three leaders to its board of directors recently.

Steve Meineke, president of Raleigh America, was picked to become president after serving three years as vice president. He replaces Kozo Shimano. Former treasurer Chris Fortune, CEO of Saris Cycling Group, was named vice president. Michael Mercuri, VP of SRAM Corporation, was elected treasurer. All three began service immediately.

Bikes Belong’s budget has doubled over the last three years. According to the organization, 2009 will be critical as Bikes Belong works to maximise federal funding for bicycling in the next transportation bill, due for approval in September. In addition, Bikes Belong plans to award more than US$1.2 million in grants to national, regional, and local bicycling projects next year.
