Blog: Will ‘Young’ Tom Danielson ever race the Tour?

Fate seems to think otherwise

Tom Danielson (R), hoping some of that Tour good luck rubs off from former yellow jersey Cancellara.

American road pro Tom Danielson was left off the nine-man Garmin-Chipotle Tour de France squad, and with all the promise our Procycling contributor has been bequeathed since taking the pro peloton by storm in 2003, time seems to be running out for the 30-year-old from Durango, Colorado.

Indeed, the no-longer-so-young Danielson has shown flashes of potential in the Tour of Spain, but his only consistency over the past few years has been his inconsistent form due to injury or illness, and team management, while sympathetic toward such circumstance, needs nine strong and healthy bodies lining up in Brest, France July 5.

Procycling‘s Features editor Daniel Friebe, himself a journalistic veteran of many Tours, weighs in in this blog about Danielson and some others who didn’t make the Tour cut the past two days.
