Chris Akrigg went to Boston for trials but they gave him trails
Part of the prize for winning the Red Bull Bike Battle at Nottingham was a trip to Boston for the US version of the innovative and very successful street style event.
But it was a very different battle when Chris and Edd Tongue arrived.
“We quickly realised we’d brought the wrong bikes. Instead of a pick your own radical trials route around the city centre, Boston was an out and out Dirt Jump Comp.”
What, with Timo Pritzel doing back flips?
“Yes. It was a good competition, but the start ramp was aimed at the dirt jumps so we realised straight away there wasn’t much for us. I wasn’t riding very fluently anyway. And back flips aren’t Edd’s thing.”
You did OK in the Biketrials Worlds though.
“I got a 4th which is my best yet. 4th, 8th and 7th. Not bad. But they cancelled the Japanese round, which was a shame. I was looking forward to that.”
“The video which me and Edd and the Marts are doing. We’ve got the time now to get some great footage for that.”
