A Paris court has thrown out the libel case instigated by Filippo Simeoni against Lance Armstrong after the seven-time Tour de France winner allegedly described the Italian as “an absolute liar” in French newspaper Le Monde in April 2003. Armstrong’s comment was made following Simeoni’s damning testimony in an Italian court against Armstrong’s former training consultant Michele Ferrari.
Court officials revealed on Monday that the statute of limitations on the case had expired and suggested that Simeoni’s lawyers had misinterpreted French law. However, Armstrong still faces a trial in Latina, Italy on March 7 on civil charges of defaming Simeoni.
