Three days of fun in Yorkshire

The historic market town of Settle, central to the Three Peaks, the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland will host The Prologue Festival– a forerunner to what organisers hope will become the annual Craven Cycling Festival. The three day event kicks off on Friday May 18 with rides in the family-friendly Gisburn Forest, or a Family Fun ticket with active travel specialist Country Lanes at the Dalesbridge Activity Centre. Friday is also the start of a three-day mountain bike weekend with Dales Mountain Biking or there is an option to hire a bike from Off the Rails and explore the Dales.

Saturday has free guided mountain bike rides from Country Lanes starting at 1pm from Dalesbridge. These rides cater for those wanting a 10 to 15 mile moderate ride while Dales Mountain Biking will offer longer guided rides for the more experienced rider. Off the Rails are offering their award-winning days out using the famous Settle to Carlisle railway and then riding home. These activities are also available on the Sunday. On Saturday evening the festival is planning an evening of relaxation with food, fun and films at the Victoria Theatre.

Sunday is the festival’s biggest day and includes the “Etape du Dales” which covers 175km and takes in nearly 3500 metres of climbing. This event sold out its 700 places in one day. For those seeking an easier option with café stops, the 50km and 100km CTC rides start from North Ribblesdale Rugby Club in Settle at 9.30am. Settle Market Place will be hosting a range of activities from a display by stunt rider Richard Johnson to nutritional advice. There will various bile-related stalls including a ‘Bike Doctor’ offering a free check-up for your machine.
