PICTURE BY TIM DE WAELE American Tom Danielson will ride for Lance Armstrong’s Discovery Channel team in 2005 after completing only one year of a two-year contract with the Italian Fassa Bortolo outfit. The procycling columnist was thrilled to sign with the American team, but was also very grateful to Fassa team manager Giancarlo Feretti for all the opportunities he’s had in 2004. “I’ve signed for two years with Discovery, and what with riding the time trial and the road race at the Worlds at the beginning of October, and getting married at the end of October, I’ve been having trouble sleeping at night I’m so excited.” Danielson will head back to his hometown of Durango in Colorado to marry girlfriend Kristin, and then remain Stateside for training camps with his new team in December and January before coming back to Europe. “I’ll be leaving Italy, and will be moving to Girona, Spain, next year, where a lot of the other Discovery guys are based,” Danielson said. After not getting a ride at any of the grand tours this season, the 26 year old will be looking to get at least one under his belt in 2005. And best of all would be a place on Lance’s Tour team in July.
