A crash in training prior to last weekend's World Cup round in Switzerland, has ended former cross-country world champion Marga Fullana's hopes of winning the overall trophy.

Fullana (Massi) was lying second in the overall rankings before round seven in Champery. She suffered a spectacular fall during training on Friday but decided to compete in the race on Saturday despite the pain.

However, she pulled out on the second lap and X-rays later revealed a fracture of the L2 vertebra. Doctors have told her it will take a month to recover. Fullana has promised to fight even harder to win the 2010 World Cup.
