Cyclists can get behind the wheel of a lorry at a road safety event in London this week.
The Changing Places project aims to let cyclists view things from the perspective of an HGV driver.
The idea is that they can see the blind spots and hazards they face when they’re on the nearside of a large vehicle.
Organised by the Metropolitan Police, the event is taking place in Finsbury Circus from 7.30-11.30am on Wednesday (20 May).
Acting Inspector Matt Mountford, from the force’s Roads Policing Unit, said: “Last year 15 cyclists lost their lives on London roads. This year the capital has already seen four cyclists lose their lives. We have to continue to educate all road users in the hope that injuries and deaths will be reduced.”
Changing Places is a joint initiative between the Road Policing Unit and the force’s Traffic Partnership Unit. The event is free.
