Stuck for something to do this weekend? Places are still available in the Gog Magog Cambridge cyclosportive, according to organizers Kilotogo. Entries for the 19 August event can be submitted online at KiloToGo’s website, by post (if you’re really quick) or on the day.
The Gog Magog starts in Saffron Walden and travels through parts of Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Essex and the Suffolk border. According to Kilotogo, it’s surprisingly hilly for the area and even more surprisingly picturesque. There are 99.4-mile and 56-mile options and on-line entry is UKP19.50.
If that’s all a bit last minute, entries are also still available for KiloToGo’s Grand Union cyclosportive on 2 September. This 105 mile ride (with 62-mile option) centres around the Grand Union Canal in the heart of England. Riders set off from Towcester and cycle through Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire.
There’s over 2000m of climbing as the route passes through the same gap in the hilly terrain as several important historically transport routes including the M1 motorway, west coast main line, the Roman road Watling Street and, of course, the Grand Union Canal.
