MISSY GIOVE RETIRES FROM RACING
“The Missile” announced her retirement from full time racing at the last NORBA in Durango USA.
After backing right off from racing this year, not competing in the World Cups, and only riding three out of five of the American NORBA race rounds, Missy has gone.
“I may show up unannounced at a race or two” she said about next season, “I want to promote the sport in some different ways. I’ll still be on the bike a lot, but I’m going to be doing more freeride and dirt jump kind of stuff.” she told VeloNews.
Sporter of mad hair, wearer of dried piranhas and filler of bra’s with her dead dogs ashes, she’s a character who will be very much missed.
She shouldn’t only be remembered for the mad stuff though, she’s had a hell of a career. She leaves it as all-time leader in NORBA downhill wins with 14 and second on the World Cup list with 11. Giove’s other accomplishments include three overall NORBA downhill crowns, two World Cup overalls, and the 1994 World Championship title. Not too shabby that’s for sure.
She’s also been generous to younger riders. I’d also go as far as to say a certain Miss F. Griffiths wouldn’t be where she is today without some Missile guidance.
Here’s to a successful future in whatever she chooses/Jamie Carter
