Hincapie Sportswear has developed advanced portable custom sublimation technology—the same technology used in the Tour de France—to print sponsor logos onto the jerseys for each category leader of the upcoming Tour of California.
According to the South Carolina company, this permanent printing is very popular with the riders and ensures that the logos stay on the leaders jerseys for the life of the product. Hincapie is the only manufacturer in the US currently using this technology, and will provide custom cycling apparel for general race and other official category leaders when the race begins in Sacramento February 14, 2009.
“We are very excited to be associated with such a prestigious event,” said Rich Hincapie, president of Hincapie Sportswear and co-owner with brother George Hincapie, himself a winner of Stage 7 of the 2008 Tour of California. “This is the best race on the North American calendar and there are many things that will make the 2009 edition the best Amgen Tour of California yet.
“Our portable sublimation technology really is popular with the riders and sponsors, because the logos are permanent and won’t fall off the jerseys,” Hincapie added. “We’re proud to take the Amgen Tour of California leader jersey production to a whole new level.” Hincapie will use its new technology to produce special jerseys for the King of the Mountain, Best Young Rider, Most Aggressive Rider, Sprint and Amgen Overall Leader jerseys, customized with their team sponsor logos daily.
“I like racing in California and I’m excited about the new nine-stage format,” said George Hincapie, 13-time Tour de France veteran. “This is the first major race of the season, and it’s always competitive.”
