It’s National Bike Week!

National Bike Week, the UK’s ‘national celebration of bicycle freedom’ began on Saturday and thousands of free cycling events are being held throughout the country all week to promote cycling as a source of fitness and fun.

The events are aimed to appeal to a broad range of riders, from novices to the hardcore rider.

This Wednesday in Manchester, for example, to help encourage cycling to work there will be bike safety checks, a valet service, security tagging, and a fairly-traded breakfast at the Town Hall Extension from 8am.

There will be another session (minus breakfast!) from 12:00 until 14:00.

We’ve put together a guide to commuting for you to get started too.

In Coleraine, CountyLondonderry, on Sunday there’ll be a gentle ride for families and children through SpringwellForest on the

Dunhill Road

. A Forest Service Manager will lead the gentle cycle stopping off at various points along the route to discuss the forest’s flora and fauna. (A variety of routes are available from 2 – 5 miles).

It’s not too late to find an event near you and take part. Go to the National Bike Week website now to take part in a local event.
