Two new features should make this year’s Kona Bristol Bikefest more enjoyable than ever – a three-hour novice race and an additional camping area complete with showers.
The event takes place at Ashton Court on the weekend of 6-7 June. Entries are filling up quickly, so organisers are advising that you apply now to avoid disappointment.
The camping area next to the event village is already almost 90 percent full, but extra space is available this year at a nearby rugby club. Riders will also have access to the club’s showers.
Organiser Michael Wilkens said: “We aren’t really changing anything on the course because people like it. The trail repair group are coming before the event to sort out bits and pieces in case the weather goes against us.
“We had a three-hour race for the first time in Cheddar last year and it was quite popular so we thought we’d bring it to Bristol. For a lot of people, a three-hour race is more ‘conquerable’ than a six-hour one.
“Having access to the rugby club means we have a second camp ground for people who don’t want to be where all the action is – families, for example – as well as showers. It’s lucky because the camping is going through the roof.”
He added: “We’ve had lots of requests of riders wanting to camp next to their friends. We’re doing our very best to accommodate all your requests. However, we can’t guarantee that all requests will be possible due to the limited space. If you enter together in the same envelope or online then there is a good chance to get you next to each other. Please check the website for your camping pitch details.”
There will be a bar on the Friday and Saturday nights, and entertainment from a DJ and local band The Mudheads.
