The Kona Mash-Up in association with MBUK took place over the weekend, incorporating the centre’s popular Whites Level loop and July Trail (part of the Skyline trail) and challenged riders to accumulate the quickest time over electronically measured sections of the course.
Besides going for the fastest overall time, riders also competed against all other competitors (no matter what category) for the fastest time in individual sections. Between the timed sections the course could be ridden at ease or even walked, only the measured sections of the trail counted towards the riders’ overall time.
There were two courses, Enduro and Technical. Both were mostly comprised of downhill and single track, but each took a slightly different route with new obstacles to overcome.
The Enduro was the longer of the two events at 40km, taking in the Whites Level loop (minus the black run) and the July trail. It included the only timed climb of the event, a tricky challenge for cross country specialists.
The Technical took place solely on Whites Level, but also included the black run for those truly acquainted with gliding over rocks and obliterating the big hits.
