Lance Armstrong paid a moving tribute to his former girlfriend Sheryl Crow on his weekly satellite radio show following the announcement of the pair’s break-up last week. The seven-time Tour de France winner said during his talk show ‘Armstrong Radio’ on Sunday that he was “torn it didn’t work out”.
“Obviously, this week was a rough week for us, but that doesn’t change the fact that Sheryl is an unbelievable lady, one of the smartest, wisest, most gifted people I’ve ever met and a person that I can honestly say has shown me a love that I never knew,” said Armstrong. “It’s only fair that I say that, and it’s only fair that we play one of her songs tonight and not run from the situation.” Armstrong closed his show by playing Crow’s song ‘Letter to God’.
The pair were scheduled to get married in April after announcing their engagement last September. Following the announcement of their break-up, Armstrong is reported to have cancelled his scheduled appearance as a presenter at the Grammy Awards on Wednesday. Crow is up for three awards including one for best pop vocal album for ‘Wildflower’, an album she has said was inspired by Armstrong.
