Like my new bike? It’s a Lambo

Label snobs and fashionistas will rejoice at new range

Cyclists who are lovers of all things Italian might have their interest piqued by a new range of bikes labelled Tonino Lamborghini. Tonino is the son of the founder of the Italian tractor company that went on to build iconic sports cars.

No longer connected to the now Audi-owned car company, Tonino started designing watches in 1981 and his brand now produces  a range of ‘lifestyle accessories’ including, sunglasses, perfumes, pens, wallets, furnishings and clothing lines. Crucially for its marketability, the brand also retains the right to use the charging bull logo.

Closer inspection of the bike line, however, reveals that they are produced by an American company, Kent International, (no, nothing to do with the UK airport) that among others, also sells a range of Cadillac, My Little Pony and Sesame Street branded bikes. Despite making much of their Italian connections, the Tonino Lamborghini bikes use Shimano components.

A breathless press release informs us that the range consists of (and we quote, verbatim):

Forza, an off-road masterpiece for trails and urban riding alike with a hydroformed aluminium frame and supple suspension fork supported by 24 speed Shimano Altus drive train and Promax Disk brakes;

Dolce Vita, a true rider’s bike combining top performance and striking looks, with an ultra light weight, top quality carbon fibre on road racing frame, technological grade materials found in super cars and formula one racing, Shimano Dura Ace 20 speed group gears, Kenda Kevlar tyres and perfect aerodynamics. RRP: $3,999.99

Rapido in versions for men and women, the traditional road bike style that is the pride of Italy with added road shock protection. RRP: $299.99

Leggenda, a fresh new style of bicycle combining the comfort and durability of a touring bike with the crisp handling of a race bike. RRP: $299.99

Viaggio, the Tonino Lamborghini tandem bike with a strong custom aluminium tandem frame, Shimano Tourney 21 speed drive train, extra-comfort Kenda Tires and responsive Promax Linear-pull brakes – share the passion. RRP:  $599.99

The release goes on to tell us that the bikes are currently distributed in the UK by Moore Large and are available via, Harrods, Tesco online, Wilkinson and somewhere called ‘Otto’ – or is that a bloke? We don’t know, and frankly…
