Martin Soederstrom wins Munich leg of Qashqai Urban Challenge
The biggest crowd of this year’s Qashqai Urban Challenge turned out to watch the Munich round of Europe’s biggest freeride competition. Spurred on by the fans the riders put on a great show on a course which consisted of two doubles and a right-hand berm into a big drop on the lower section where about 25,000 spectators awaited the two huge final jumps.
Martin Soederstrom’s consistency saw him win the day and in the finals he pulled a clean truckdriver into a 360 tailwhip to pedals, tabletop off the drop, and was the only rider to tailwhip over the nine metre double, ending the run with a clean nose dive 360.
Top qualifier Trond Hanson finished second with a 360 x-up into a tailwhip, moto whip off the drop, clean 360 over the big double, into an opposite 360 to finish. Brandon Semenuk snatched third place with a tailwhip into a 360 truckdriver, followed by a no-foot Can-Can off the drop, to a seat grab Indian air, riding out of a double tailwhip over the last jump.
Lance McDermott and Paul Basagotia rounded out the top five and are in contention for the overall title.
The final round of the Qashqai Urban Challenge takes place at London’s Tate Modern Gallery on Saturday May 24. General admission to all the Nissan Qashqai Challenge events is free. If you can’t make it on the day, you can watch the competition on Freecaster.
