The Montane Kielder 100, a 100 mile mountain bike marathon in the Kielder Water and Forest Park, Northumberland, will take place on Saturday, 5 September 2009.
The race will raise the bar for UK marathon racing on the miles of technical singletrack in the area with a smattering of fire roads, grass tracks and just one road crossing.
Riders will hit the trails at 6.30am, and will have to reach each of the three feed stations by an allotted time. There are only two race categories – Open and Vets, and entry costs £50.
Event organiser Sara Randle (SIP Events) said: “100 mile ultra endurance racing is really popular in other parts of the world but we only ever do 65 miles in this country. I wanted to do something different, I just needed to find somewhere big enough and Kielder had always been on my short list. It’s going to be a very hard race, but hopefully it will be top of their list to train for and come back and have another go at next year.”
