Mountain Bike World Cup round 1 – Pietermaritzburg
Greg Minnaar (Santa Cruz Syndicate) was mobbed by spectators after winning the downhill race at the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup round in his hometown of Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. Mick Hannah (GT Bicycles) came second ahead of Steve Peat (Santa Cruz Syndicate).

Mountain Bike World Cup round 2 – La Bresse
Steve Peat (Santa Cruz Syndicate) was one victory away from taking the all-time lead in Downhill World Cup victories after an incredible ride at this year’s second round in La Bresse, France.
Australia’s Sam Hill (Monster Energy / Specialized / Mad Catz) finished second ahead of Mick Hannah (GT Bicycles) in third.

Mountain Bike World Cup round 3 – Vallnord
Steve Peat stormed to his second World Cup downhill victory in a row in Vallnord, and in the process ensured his place in the record books.
The Brit’s 17th podium top-spot meant he had beaten the previous record for the highest number of World Cup wins set by his old arch rival Nicolas Vouilloz.
Britain’s Gee Atherton (Animal Commencal) finished second ahead of Greg Minnaar (Santa Cruz Syndicate).

Mountain Bike World Cup round 4 – Fort William
South African rider Greg Minnaar emerged victorious after a nailbiting final few minutes at the fourth 2009 UCI World Cup downhill round in Fort William, Scotland.
When sixth-from-last man down Sam Hill (Monster Energy/Specialized/Mad Catz) put in a storming run that gave him a five-second-plus lead (4:40.43), it looked like he might have the win sewn up – but he could only manage second place. Kiwi Sam Blenkinsop (Yeti Fox Shox Factory Race Team) finished third.

Mountain Bike World Cup round 5 – Maribor
Three time UCI World Champion Fabien Barel (Subaru) announced his return from a knee injury by becoming the first non-Santa Cruz Syndicate rider of the year to win a World Cup.
Sam Hill (Monster Energy / Specialized / Mad Catz) finished second while Greg Minnaar (Santa Cruz Syndicate) took over the World Cup lead from his team-mate Steve Peat after the Englishman flatted on his run.

Mountain Bike World Cup round 6 – Mont-Saint-Anne
Sam Hill (Monster Energy / Specialized / Mad Catz ) finally broke the string of bad luck which produced one of the longest winless streaks of his career when he took the sixth round of the World Cup on in Mont Sainte Anne, Quebec, Canada. Hill’s win propelled him into the overall World Cup series lead, ahead of Steve Peat (Santa Cruz Syndicate) who finished second ahead of Aaron Gwin (USA|Yeti Fox Shox Factory Race Team).

Mountain Bike World Cup round 7 – Bromont
Greg Minnaar (Santa Cruz Syndicate) took his third win this season in the men’s World Cup series, at Bromont, Quebec in Canada.
Fabien Barel (Subaru Mountain Bike Pro Team) finished second, while Sam Hill (Monster Energy-Specialized) retains the lead in the men’s series after finishing third.

Mountain Bike World Cup round 8 – Schladming
Sam Blenkinsop made history by recording New Zealand’s first ever World Cup victory in Schladming. After consistent results in the top ten throughout the year the Yeti Cycles rider clearly enjoyed the steep Schladming track that rewarded a loose style of riding.
Sam Hill (Monster Energy / Specialized / Mad Catz) took second ahead of Animal Commencal rider Gee Atherton.
