Spanish all rounder Oscar Pereiro has been handed the top bib number of 11 for the start of the Tour de France here on Saturday.
Normally, the previous year’s winner wears the number one bib however organisers have decided to leave out 1-10 owing to Floyd Landis’s absence from the race as he awaits an arbitration decision.
The American is facing disqualification and a possible ban following his positive test for testosterone on stage 17 of last year’s race.
Pereiro, who rides for the Caisse d’Epargne team of yellow jersey contender Alejandro Valverde, finished runner-up to Landis in 2006.
The race numbers for the 189 riders in the race will now go from 11 to 219.
