The long-awaited Crankbrothers Iodine all-mountain wheelsets are now available, and for those planning to race the April 16 – 19 Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, California, there’s a unique demo incentive programme that also includes the popular Cobalt cross-country wheelset as well.
Contact Crankbrothers before April 8 to receive a demo pair of wheels. Race them at Sea Otter, and if you podium, you keep them – free of charge. All levels of racers qualify – Beginner to Pro. The offer is limited to the first 50 racers to respond.
The US$1,000 burnt-orange anodised Iodine wheelset, with 24 spokes each wheel, weighs 870g (front) and 995 (rear), and is disc-brake specific and tubeless tyre compatible. Recommended tyre sizes are 26 x 2.3 – 2.5.
“The ‘Demo to Win’ idea came up as we were discussing how to get some momentum and visibility for the new wheels,” said Crankbrothers marketing director Christina Orlandella. “What better way than to offer wheels the racers at Sea Otter?”
According to Crankbrothers, the following Sea Otter races qualify: Cross-Country, Short Track, Super D, and limited Downhill (depending on your bike). Proof of Sea Otter race registration must be provided.
Reservations must be made by April 8th. Crankbrothers will send the wheels to your house ASAP, giving you an opportunity to set up and spin before the event. Or, they can swap your wheels on site at Sea Otter, but will only have a few sets available on site, so quantity is limited.
If you podium (finishing 1st – 5th place) using the demo wheels, you get to keep the set, but you must come to their tent at Sea Otter after your race and Crankbrothers will make it official.
According to Crankbrothers, if you somehow do not make the podium with these wheels, you’re still in luck. After you’ve demoed the wheels all week you have the option to purchase them for a special event price. Stop by the crankbrothers tent to find out.
And of course, the bailout: there is absolutely no obligation to buy. After you demo the wheels, you can simply return them, no charge. Crankbrothers will send a UPS shipping label that you can use to return the wheels by April 24.
