The Red Bull Rampage freeride comp returned at the weekend after a four-year break, and while the final has been postponed until today due to adverse weather conditions, the practice and qualifying runs have produced some unbelievable tricks, spills and lines being ridden on the cliff drops and gaps that litter the course.
US rider Cam McCaul qualified in first place yesterday ahead of Brandon Semenuk and Gee Atherton. 12 other riders will join them in the finals which are due to start today, weather permitting.
The route to the finals hasn’t been without the inevitable spills though, as Utah local Chris Van Dine found out on the huge volcano jump where he attempted a signature barrel roll. After charging down the ridge from the number three start gate, he launched a huge drop down to the secondary section of the course, landing slightly sideways, and was pummelled into the ground. This put an end to his chances of advancing to the final.
