Stymied in contract negotiations with new and even some of his existing riders, CSC boss Bjarne Riis
PICTURE BY TIM DE WAELE After months of searching Bjarne Riis finally seems to have found a co-sponsor for his CSC team. According to procycling sources, a Japanese company is ready to step in and ease the financial problems that have kept Riis from operating in the rider market, writes Susanne Horsdal. Contract negotiations with several riders currently at CSC, including Bobby Julich, Frank Hoj, Tristan Hoffman, Fabrizio Guidi and Nicki Sorensen have been put on hold because Riis simply hasn’t had the money to sign them. Now there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel. One of the riders Riis has been very eager to keep is American Bobby Julich, who practically had his career resurrected this year in the Danish team. For weeks Julich has mulling over a two-year offer from Belgian outfit Davitamon-Lotto, but it’s now expected that the American will sign a new contract with Team CSC at the beginning of next week.
