Scott launch new ‘gravity’ team

Seven-rider downhill/4X development squad

Scott Bicycles have launched a new World Cup downhill and four-cross team. The Scott11 squad has been set up to nurture promising riders and help the company’s engineers develop new products.

The new seven-rider team will run alongside the US company’s Scott-Swisspower cross-country squad. They will ride the Scott Gambler downhill bike, kitted out with Shimano components, DT Swiss wheels and Fox suspension.

“It’s important to keep the pedal to the metal during times like these, when the brand order re-shuffles after the economy turns up, there will be new market leaders and we want to be one of them,” Scott’s marketing and PR director Adrian Montgomery told BikeRadar.

“We are committed to this long term, several years,” he added. “We hope to grow this into a strong program that produces champions, just as the Scott-Swisspower team has.

“We don’t expect tremendous results, the real gains are going to be in the product development side at first,” Montgomery explained. “That said, it would be nice to see these guys break and and have some great performances. Podiums come after all the hard work on the ground level is done…”

Other sponsors include FSA Gravity, TSG, Prologo, Schwalbe, e-thirteen and the French ski resort Chatel, where the team is based. Red Bull are involved as well as Park Tool, Movetec and Guller Bausysteme.

“With Scott11, we took a similar approach by investing in another professional, Claudio Caluori [the team’s manager], who could mentor and guide young riders on the way up,” Montgomery added. “At the same time, we gain valuable experience we can use to further develop our gravity product and the entire mountain segment.

“The team will race the entire World Cup, with some National races in Europe,” he added. “Possibly Sea Otter and the US Open.”
