The Scottish round of the 2009 Merida Bikes MTB Marathon series powered by MBUK takes place this weekend in Selkirk, and riders can expect even better riding this year.
Routes have been changed to relieve singletrack bottlenecks and miss out the merciless climb from Glenbenna up to the Minch Moor crossroads. Riders have a choice of four different length courses:
- 28km: Slightly more climbing and singletrack than 2008. Top quality from start to finish and just right for novices or those on the way back to fitness.
- 45km: Mostly new apart from the Yair loop and a big improvement on the previous route. Easy gradients on the way up and some brilliant descending.
- 70km: Includes some great new trails early on, the best of the natural forest singletrack from 2008 and a tough finish on sheep paths and fast tracks.
- 85km: Three new climbs, three new descents, plenty of twin-track in the first hour or so and a choice selection of the Borders’ best natural and purpose-built trails.
Entries are still available. For more information go to the Merida Marathon website. A round of the Gore Bike Wear Sportive road series takes place alongside the Merida marathon this weekend. See the website for more details.
