Shimano Alfine Pink Ribbon fundraiser online

Bid on one of five custom bikes for Young Survival Coalition

Shimano and five renowned bicycle frame builders will offer five custom bicycles to be auctioned off to raise funds for the Young Survival Coalition (YSC) in time for October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Shimano Alfine Pink Ribbon Fundraiser online auction runs September 23 through October 31, 2008.

“We started this effort at Shimano to make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer,” said Dustin Brady of Shimano American Corporation. “As cancer affects us all, the importance of having knowledge in these times and the importance of early detection makes all the difference in the world.

“Together with these five artisans, the sale of these beautiful one-of-a-kind bikes will raise awareness and money for programs to support breast cancer survivors.”

Proceeds of the auction will benefit Shimano’s partner in this effort, the Young Survival Coalition (YSC), the premier international non-profit network of breast cancer survivors and supporters dedicated to addressing the concerns and issues unique to young women and breast cancer.

“The YSC’s continuing efforts to bring programs and research to young women affected by breast cancer will be greatly enhanced by the funds raised from Shimano’s Alfine auction,” said Marcia Stein, CEO of Young Survival Coalition. “We are thrilled to be a part of this, especially with YSC’s focus on cycling as a vehicle for fundraising and awareness.”

Each builder donated their creative capabilities and materials to the project with Shimano donating components for each bicycle. Shimano equipped each of the bicycles with its Alfine internal hub gear components that compliment the unique frame designs:
