Team Milram report that the condition of Michele Gobbi is improving following his crash at the GP Beghelli on Sunday that left him with bad head injuries. “Michele is breathing by himself, although this is causing him some fatigue,” said Milram doctor Claudio Sprenger. “I have spoken to Dr Gordini, the medical chief of the Bologna hospital’s reanimation unit, and he has confirmed that the condition of the rider is improving, but he is refusing to make any prognostication on his future condition.”

Davitamon-Lotto are to replace directeur sportif Eric van Lancker with LPR’s Roberto Damiani, who previously worked with Mapei. “Van Lancker’s contract came to an end and we decided not to renew it,” said team PR. Filip Demyttenaere. “It has got nothing to do with budgetary reasons. We took on the Italian Roberto Damiani in July as directeur sportif for 2007. [Team manager] Marc Sergeant will take control of more races himself as the number of directeurs sportifs will stay at four. Herman Frison and Hendrik Redant are staying with us.” It has already been announced that the team’s other directeur, Allan Peiper, is to join T-Mobile.
