Skil-Shimano rider dies; Haussler top in Murcia, but Serrano prevented from starting; Giro wild card
Arno Wallard, of the Continental Pro outfit Skil-Shimano, died on Tuesday evening after returning home from a training ride. The 26-year-old Dutchman had felt unwell on the ride, but the cause of his death is still unknown. – Emerging German sprint superstar Heinrich Haussler won Wednesday’s opening stage of the Tour of Murcia. The 22-year-old Gerolsteiner rider won the bunch sprint ahead of Panaria’s Max Richeze and Jesus Del Nero (3 Molinos). Ricardo Serrano of the Spanish Kaiku team was prevented from starting the race due to an elevated haematocrit level. – Giro d’Italia organisers RCS have announced the two wild-card teams who will join the 20 ProTour teams at the start of the race in Seraing, Belgium, on May 6. The two are Italo-Ireland squad Ceramiche Panaria-Navigare and the Colombian Selle Italia team.
