World cycling’s ruling body has provisionally suspended Spanish cyclist Eladio Jimenez Sanchez after he failed a doping test taken during the Tour of Portugal.
The International Cycling Union said in a statement that it had taken the decision after a laboratory in Madrid found “recombinant EPO in a urine sample collected from him during the Volta a Portugal on 12 August 2009.”
The suspension will remain in force until a panel convened by the Spanish Cycling Federation rules on whether the cyclist has flouted anti-doping regulations, added the UCI.
