Gee Atherton would like to borrow a set after mullering his on the Rampage
Gee Atherton has sacked off the idea of going to college after a good season and high hopes for the future.
“It’s not really possible to do both at a high level and there’s only a few years when you’re physically able to go for the top as an athlete. No contest.”
Gee is talking in the husky nuisance phone call voice of a man who doesn’t want to breath in too far.
“Yeah I nailed my ribs at the Red Bull Rampage, cracked ’em a bit and bruised my lung”.
“Oh yeah, it was massive! Huge drops. Brilliant.”
Not a bad season for you, all round.
“Yeah, it was OK. I won the Junior title at the Europeans, got 13th in the World Cup and 5th in the Maxxis.”
You and Dan seem to like the Maxxis cup,
“It’s so well organised. And the prize money is good. Three grand for a win, not bad.”
Dan seems to be wondering whether to do 4X next year, are you going to?
“Definitely. It gets so much coverage. I love it.”
What about the World Cup? It doesn’t seem quite the draw it once did and there’s talk of a rival event next year.
“So long as it carries the World Title I’ll go on doing it. Everyone will. We want to be the best in the World.”
What was your best day in the office this year?
Oh the European’s in Graz and not just because I won the title, although that helped.
And the worst?
The 3rd National in Wales. I finished 40th. It was one of those dry/wet final run things and it sucked.”
