A working prototype of the much mooted SRAM Double Tap system was released to the cycling press this week at the European headquarters in Amersfoort, Holland.
The system utilizes a single lever for gear shifting duties that articulates backwards. The benefits of which, to the sprint specialists in particular, include being able to change to a smaller sprocket while gripping the drops. This 10 speed system is compatible with Shimano (and SRAM) cassettes and will be available to the aftermarket late summer 2006 and we hope, in time for the original equipment market, for the Eurobike show. While the system is currently only compatible with double chainsets SRAM intend to produce a wide range of cassette options to suit compact chainset users.
SRAM sponsors the US based pro cycling team Kodak Easy-Share.
